Just like Saint Francis, Saint Gabriel gave up his well-off life in Spoleto to follow his vocation. The sanctuary dedicated to him, in the province of Teramo, is now a pilgrimage and faith tourism destination.
The Sanctuary of Saint Gabriel
In the town of Isola del Gran Sasso d’Italia, in the province of Teramo, there is a place where spirituality is a constant for all the thousands of tourists who go to visit the Sanctuary of Saint Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows.
The Sanctuary of Saint Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows is one of the vertexes of a sacred triangle including Loreto and San Giovanni Rotondo. An itinerary that has religion and faith at the base.
Prayers and ex-voto from the Sanctuary
Besides the Sancturay and the marvelous natural panorama you can enjoy from the complex dedicated to Saint Gabriel, there are the Basilica, built in the seventies for the continuously growing number of devotees coming to visit the relics of the saint, and the Convent where Saint Gabriel lived and where there are the museum and the ex voto to the Saint.
Saint Gabriel and miracles
A Saint close to the people: Saint Gabriel is known all over the world for its miracles testified by thousands of ex voto that can be found in the house of worship dedicated to the Saint.
The Passionist Congregation, founded by Saint Paul of the Cross, is a community whose members are known in the Church of Rome as Passionists. They live according to the Gospel, praying and preaching the Word of Jesus all over the world. Their symbol summarizes their mission and their vocation: a heart and a cross bearing the words “Jesu XPI Passio”, meaning “Passion of Jesus Christ”.
